January 24, 2023. Over the past 26 years, VisionFund Uganda has achieved exceptional growth in extending financial services to the underprivileged people in Uganda’s rural and vulnerable communities. In 2019, in a world first pilot we extended financial inclusion services to refugees in West Nile targeting refugees from South Sudan. We were driven by our mission We believe in brighter futures for children, empowering families to create incomes and jobs, unlocking economic potential for communities to thrive” and it’s at the forefront of our operations across the country with a deliberate effort to keep Our Promise to the vulnerable children in Uganda.

Today, VisionFund Uganda is excited to announce the appointment of Ms. Sarah Yvonne Byabazaire as the chairperson of the Board of Directors. Ms. Sarah is a seasoned banker with experience stemming from Barclays Bank (now ABSA), and Stanbic Bank, where she held different Leadership roles. She possesses over 10 years of senior and organizational leadership within the financial sector and a wealth of expertise in organizational governance, banking, strategic project planning, and management. She is a Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), holds an MBA from the University of South Wales, UK, a Certificate in Entrepreneurship Essentials from Harvard Business School, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Economics from Makerere University.

Ms. Sarah takes over board leadership from CPA Constant Othieno Mayende, whose stellar board leadership tenure has spanned over the last two years, having been on the VisionFund Uganda Board from 2016 – 2023. Ms. Sarah takes over the Board at a critical time when VisionFund Uganda is embarking on its strategic ambition of transforming into a Micro Deposit Taking Institution. We believe she’s best suited to lead this process, considering her vast experience in the financial and banking sector.

The Board under her leadership will oversee the implementation of our strategic ambitions to achieve the highest levels of corporate governance and sustainable performance to achieve a double bottom-line of both impact and sustainability.
