Frida a single mother of five (three girls and two boys) and a commercial farmer, growing maize, beans, and bananas amongst others at a medium scale. Through a struggle to make ends meet, Frida was introduced to VisionFund Uganda by one of the village agents of World Vision way back in 2017. With a need to grow her agriculture activities, she joined the mostly-female Kyamuganguzi Savings Group of 15 members where each member applied for a particular loan amount.

The products and services offered fall into five broad categories: microloans, savings programmes, microinsurance, training and education. Benefits include sustainable livelihoods, increased economic well-being, improved community well-being, decreased dependence on outside aid and restoration of hope and dignity.

From refugee to employer: Geofrey's story
With a family of eight children to support, Geoffrey recalls that it was still not easy. “We were troubled with poor sanitation leading to sicknesses and little medication due to the pressures of many refugees entering Uganda. We did not have enough food, water, and no proper shelter, amongst other difficulties,” he says, attributing their survival to God.
