Our Work in Africa
VisionFund's MFIs in Africa are changing the lives of communities in all corners of the continent. Though on average our micro-loan sizes are smaller in Africa - averaging out at just $310 for a first time borrower - we serve more clients with financial inclusion services than in any other region. Our livelihoods solutions help our clients build their businesses, send their children to school, and put nutritious food on the table.
VisionFund is always innovating new financial inclusion solutions in Africa, to better serve the diverse needs of our clients. From our new programme for refugees and host communities in the West Nile, to disaster preparedness and recovery lending and insurance, we are focused on sustainably empowering our clients to break the cycle of poverty, for good.

World Vision’s life-changing THRIVE model empowers parents economically to break the cycle of poverty and sustainably improve their family’s education, health, food security and nutrition, and shelter. VisionFund partners with World Vision to support the program across Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, and Zambia in Africa.
Disaster Recovery Lending
VisionFund is using our innovative ARDIS program to provide the necessary tools to allow us to perform recovery lending programmes following major natural catastrophes, and in doing so, provide outcomes like those traditional insurance would provide.
Agrifinance in Africa
Agricultural finance, or Agrifinance, is a model that assists vulnerable and rural smallholder farmers to reduce risk and increase investment in their farms, leading to increased yields and higher income. Through strong partnerships and an innovative insurance product, VisionFund is working to ensure that farmers in Tanzania, Kenya and Malawi are managing controllable risks and are supported through insurance when disaster strikes.
