From Despair to Dignity: Samuel Journey to Safe Sanitation

Samuel Tetteh VFG 1

In the Fanteakwa community of Ghana, Samuel and his family faced a daily struggle that many of us take for granted – access to safe sanitation facilities. With no toilet at home, they were forced to embark on a long and often unsafe journey to use a communal toilet shared by the entire neighborhood. For Samuel, this meant not only inconvenience but also genuine concern for the safety and health of his loved ones, especially his grandchildren, who had to traverse busy roads to reach the facility.

Their already challenging situation took a devastating turn when a fierce storm swept through the community, causing the public toilet to collapse. Left without a viable option for sanitation, Samuel felt a deep sense of despair. Without any savings to finance the construction of a new toilet, he found himself at a loss.

Feeling devastated and hopeless, Samuel sought help from the local Assemblyman, Mohammed, who introduced him to VisionFund Ghana. Without delay, Samuel approached Joshua, a VisionFund officer in the area, and applied for a loan to build a toilet at home.

To his surprise and joy, VisionFund Ghana not only approved his loan but also provided all the necessary materials for building the toilet. Additionally, they connected him to Mr. Thomas, a skilled individual trained by World Vision in constructing toilets.

Within a short period, Samuel's family had their own toilet, ensuring their safety and hygiene. Grateful for this life-changing support, Samuel expressed his happiness and deep gratitude to VisionFund Ghana.

Now, Samuel and his family no longer have to risk their health to use a toilet facility. Thanks to VisionFund Ghana, they have achieved a significant improvement in their quality of life.
