VisionFund Cares saved me from hefty hospital bills

Moses Migadde

One day when Moses woke up to get to his shop, he did not anticipate how the day would eventually end. Going about his daily endeavour , Moses became unconscious and collapsed – this being his last memory of that day. He would later get rushed to a nearby mission hospital to seek medical attention for his ailing health and subsequently diagnosed with diabetes.

Moses went on to spend five nights at the hospital making him unable to continue with his work which earns him a daily income. It is from this income that he is able to pay back his UGX 1,500,000 loan from VisionFund Uganda. His five-day stay in the hospital meant that he had met the criteria to lodge a Hospital Cash claim under the VisionFund Cares product.

The hospital bill had accumulated to a tune of UGX 589,000 but Moses and his family could only raise UGX 300,000 to offset this obligation. Upon discharge, the hospital required Moses to pay his outstanding bill within 48 hours. This meant making frantic calls to relatives in vain, most of which did not yield and Moses was nearly convinced into taking a loan to settle this bill.

When he informed his wife about VisionFund Cares, he was skeptical about his claim getting settled within two working days. The wife managed to gather the required documentation and the claim was submitted and verified by the Insurance partner, Turaco Insurance Brokers Limited. After scrutinizing the claim, Moses was settled with UGX 250,000 within two days enabling him clear his hospital bill. He remains grateful to VisionFund Uganda for establishing a product that cushions vulnerable clients like him from financial shocks that arise from day-to-day occurrences like illness.
