Operating in Myanmar since 1998, VisionFund Myanmar is one of the largest microfinance institutions (MFIs) in the country, with a wide geographic footprint. With our team of over 500 staff, we operate in 72 townships across 12 states and regions in Myanmar. We serve low-income households providing financial and livelihood solutions that aim to increase household income, improve child well-being, and unlock the economic potential of vulnerable and rural communities. A Rural Grocery Shop and Family Farming for Food Security
"Though we distributed sugarcane and banana to buyers, we could not do that during the COVID-19 period. So, we make them fresh juices and sell them at our own shop," Ma Nyein shared her experience of doing business during the pandemic. Traditional with a Modern Twist Makes Good Business Sense
The couple credits the business coaching provided with their SGB loans with helping them to adapt to the many challenges of rapid growth, as well the multiple crises they have had to face. They especially appreciate the network that the coaching provides. “We get the chance to learn from the experiences, journeys, achievements, and struggles of other small business people who we don’t know,” Kyaw Lin explains.
A Resilient Livestock Journey
With loans from VisionFund Myanmar, Ohnmar was able to build five new concrete sties to replace her old wooden pigsty, allowing her to raise more pigs and increase the family income.
The Strength of Motherhood
"My business started to take off. I was especially happy that I can go back to my passion – which was flower farming. Not only was I able to restart my flower farm, but I was also able to expand it to two acres from one acre. I purchased fertilizers, pesticides, and farming tools and equipment to grow better quality flowers. At the same time, I invested in concreting a seven-block pigsty." shares Ngwe Thi.
